Masseter Botox prices are among the topics researched by patients with severe teeth clenching, masseter muscle hypertrophy, or a desire to slim the face. Masseter Botox is the controlled reduction of muscle strength by injecting botulinum toxin (Botox, Dysport) into the masseter — the strongest of the jaw-closing muscles. It is a powerful complement to bruxism treatment alongside a night guard, and it’s also used to slim the squared appearance of the face caused by significant masseter hypertrophy.
In bruxism, the masseter undergoes hypertrophy over time as a result of sustained clenching — it enlarges and strengthens. This further increases the force on the teeth, accelerating enamel wear, tooth fractures, and TMJ problems. A night guard physically protects the teeth, while masseter Botox reduces the clenching force itself. Used together, they provide the most comprehensive bruxism protection.
Masseter Botox is a low-invasive, painless, and quick procedure. The treatment takes about 10–15 minutes, results start to be felt within 3–7 days, and the effect lasts for 4–6 months. Repeat injections are needed as the effect wears off. With regular sessions, muscle volume can shrink permanently and the intervals between injections can lengthen.
At our clinic Doredent in Avcılar, Istanbul, masseter Botox treatment is delivered by our clinical team with a muscle anatomy assessment and individualised dosing. The unit count is set based on each patient’s muscle size, clenching severity, and aesthetic expectation.
What Is Masseter Botox?
Masseter Botox is the injection of medication containing botulinum toxin type A (brands such as Botox, Dysport, Xeomin) into the masseter muscle. Botulinum toxin blocks acetylcholine release at the neuromuscular junction, reducing involuntary muscle contraction. The muscle isn’t fully paralysed, but the clenching force drops in a controlled way. Load on the teeth decreases, dental wear slows, the TMJ relaxes, and muscle pain eases.
While the medical indication is bruxism management, masseter Botox has an important aesthetic effect as well. A hypertrophic masseter gives the face a “square jaw” look. After Botox, muscle volume decreases and the face takes on a slimmer, more V-shaped form. Because of this dual benefit, the procedure is performed by both dentists and medical aesthetic specialists.
Indications for Masseter Botox
Bruxism (Teeth Clenching) Treatment
MedicalIn severe night or daytime bruxism, it reduces muscle strength and protects the teeth, fillings, crowns, and TMJ. Combined with a night guard, it delivers the strongest result.
TMJ and Muscle Pain
Pain ManagementProvides symptomatic relief in chronic jaw pain, temple pain, temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD), and myofascial pain syndrome related to bruxism. Reduces muscle spasm and tension.
Jawline Slimming
AestheticSlims widened facial contours caused by masseter hypertrophy. Shifts the look from a square jaw to a V-shaped face. A medical procedure performed with an aesthetic goal.
Restoration Protection
ProtectiveBy reducing excessive clenching forces after new zirconia crowns, implant prostheses, or extensive restorative work, it extends the service life of the treatment.
The Masseter Botox Process
Masseter Botox is a short and low-invasive procedure. The steps are as follows:
Consultation and Assessment
Bruxism severity, muscle size, tooth wear pattern, and aesthetic expectations are assessed. Medical history, current medications, and any previous Botox experience are reviewed. Indications and contraindications are evaluated.
Muscle Assessment
With the patient clenching, the size, symmetry, and tone of the masseter are evaluated by palpation. Any size difference between the two sides is checked; injection points and dosage are planned according to any asymmetry.
Dose Selection
The total number of units to be administered on each side is set according to muscle size and treatment goal. Typically 25–50 units per side. The dose tends to be lower for bruxism-focused treatment and higher for purely aesthetic treatment.
Injection
A fine needle is used to inject at the predetermined points in the masseter (typically 3–5 points per side). The procedure takes 10–15 minutes; no anaesthesia is required. For sensitive patients, local cooling or a topical anaesthetic cream can be applied.
Aftercare
We recommend avoiding massage of the injection area for the first 24 hours, not lying down for 4 hours, and avoiding strenuous exercise. Hot showers, saunas, and lying face-down are also not advised on the first day. Normal daily activities can be resumed immediately.
Onset and Follow-Up
Effect begins in 3–7 days and reaches its peak in 2–4 weeks. A check-up is scheduled at 2 weeks; any asymmetry correction or additional dosing is done then. The full aesthetic effect becomes apparent at 4–6 weeks.
Factors Affecting Masseter Botox Prices
Masseter Botox cost varies with muscle size, the brand used, and the treatment goal:
Number of Units Used
Masseter Botox is priced per “unit.” Total need ranges from 50 to 100 units depending on muscle size. Unit count directly drives cost; larger muscles require higher doses.
Botulinum Toxin Brand
Different brands such as Botox (Allergan), Dysport (Galderma), and Xeomin have different unit prices. Their unit conversion ratios also differ; with Dysport, for instance, the unit count is higher than with Botox but the unit price is lower.
Treatment Goal
There can be a difference in dose and approach between bruxism treatment alone and aesthetic jawline slimming. The plan differs for combined treatments; the protocol and unit count change with each goal.
Renewal Frequency
The effect lasts 4–6 months; repeat injections are needed. Planning 2–3 sessions a year shapes the total annual cost. With regular use, the intervals can lengthen over time.
Additional Treatments
Adjuncts such as a night guard, occlusal adjustment, or restoration of worn teeth with zirconia crowns are priced separately. Combined planning is recommended for treatment success.
Follow-Up Visits
The 2-week post-injection check-up and any touch-up dosing are usually included in the initial session fee. Any asymmetry correction or dose top-up is done at this visit.

Frequently Asked Questions
Because a very fine needle is used, only minimal pain is felt. Most patients describe it as “a mild pinch.” No anaesthesia is required; ice or a topical anaesthetic cream can be applied if preferred. Comfort during the procedure is high.
With proper dosing, chewing function is preserved; only excessive clenching force is reduced. Mild weakness in chewing can be felt in the first week — this is temporary and returns to normal in 1–2 weeks. We recommend starting with soft foods and transitioning gradually.
In the first year, repeat treatment is usually needed every 4–6 months. With regular use, muscle volume can shrink permanently and the intervals can lengthen to 6–8 months. Renewal frequency varies from person to person based on individual muscle tone.
The ideal is to use both together. A night guard physically protects the teeth, while Botox reduces the clenching force. The combination delivers the most comprehensive bruxism protection; Botox alone doesn’t protect the teeth — only the force is reduced.
Yes. As the hypertrophic masseter shrinks, the jawline slims and the face takes on a more oval / V-shaped look. The aesthetic effect becomes apparent in 4–6 weeks. Satisfying results are achieved in patients who feel uncomfortable with a square jaw appearance.
Pregnant and breastfeeding women, people with neuromuscular disorders (such as myasthenia gravis), those with an allergy to botulinum toxin, and patients with an active infection at the injection site should not have it. Certain antibiotic use can also be a contraindication.
A single session isn’t permanent; the effect lasts 4–6 months. With regular treatment, however, muscle volume shrinks permanently and the frequency of renewal decreases. If you stop, the muscle can return to its original size over time; full return can take years.
The drop in clenching force is felt within 3–7 days. Muscle volume reduction and facial slimming become apparent in 4–6 weeks. We recommend waiting 6–8 weeks for the full aesthetic result; comparison photos can be taken during this period.
Common complications are mild redness and swelling at the injection site, which resolve within a few hours. Rarely, asymmetry of the smile or temporary chewing difficulty can occur; sound anatomical knowledge and technique minimise this risk. Serious complications are uncommon.
